Bob, thanks for the kind words. =) Backdrops are 1/4" masonite. The paint is Behr, picked up at Home Depot. Lower level is 540B-4 Horizon Haze and upper level is 540B-5 Riviera Blue. Sounds like you got yourself a nice sized layout room! -Mike
Mike: I plan on using the 1/4 " masonite. I haven't decided on a final color for the back drops yet. This will be an round the room layout. The train room is part of the house which will finished in late January. The bench work and backdrops will be up the week after I pass papers on the new house which is near Frisco Texas.
Added some paint to the backboards, put out a few more scratch built buildings to replace some generic ones an added more details like telegraph poles on the Rosenberg NTRAK modules. We are open for the public again today and then tear the layout down tonight and stash it away again.
Here are some new pics I took today. I've been playing around with different angles and placing the camera down on the layout...
I have no switch stands of any kind, and frankly their appearance is overdue on my yard. But, I didn't want to buy any...shipping costs are rising! So, I had to make 'em. I found two unused old-fashioned globe HO lamp posts from a styrene kit. They looked okay, especially when the globes came off. Next, I needed targets. I had some Caboose ground throws unbuilt because after the first, I decided they were not going to look the correct size on my layout...they're much too large. So, Caboose targets were set upon the truncated lamp posts. Next, I had to have handles. I scrounged two horn-hook couplers (never throw anything away!), and found that the one small centring spring with the tab would suffice. I glued the tab to the rotating collar (not really, just to the base of the lamp post), and then painted up both stands. Here they are.
Wow, Crandell. Turned out looking great. Now you feel vindicated for squirreling away all those bits and pieces. It is always a good feeling when you can kit bash even the smallest object and come up with something useful.
