Thanks, again, gentlemen. I lived for seven years in Winnipeg, or Winterpeg, as we called it. We lived through seven record "plagues" during that period, and a record blizzard was one of them, plus we set a record for the longest stretch where the daytime high didn't rise above minus twenty degrees Celsius. Then, I moved to Petawawa, ON, where one year we must have had to shovel at least a two inch skiff of snow off the driveway every morning for about two months. It wasn't awful, or onerous, but it sure was an inundation in winter. Now retired, and living in the relative balm of coastal BC, I can still drive for 45 minutes up Mt. Washington and snowshoe between early December and the beginning of May. That scene provides me with a lot of memories. Some of them include a 10 hp. snowblower. :tb-rolleyes:
When I worked in NW Minnesota we used to drive to Winnepeg for dinner. Nice town but out on those plains I can imagine the cold. What winters are you referring to? I was in the region 94-96 the coldest winters in Minnesota history since 1924!
John, I believe it was 94. Twice, once while in Regina, SK, and later in Winnipeg, on Hallowe'en afternoon, the temps dropped like a stone to about -26 and stayed under -5 or so for the next five months. It was weird. I can recall running in the Peg with a Balaclava and a face mask, although only on the most bitter days, usually those around -25 with a nasty wind chill.
