Mart: I would especially like to see your ONR SD40-2, regardless of the paint scheme. Here are a couple of GP38-2s I shot last October in Cochrane, I think, showing that both the "classic" orangy-yellow and the lemon-yellow are being used, even on the new "ONR" scheme. If you used the classic colour, I would love some tips of how you achieved it. Richard.
HI.. A pair of Atlas GP-15's in Frisco plus a Atlas U25B in Frisco, also a Atlas GP-7 Undec (got it cheap) but will be painted in Frisco O&W once I get some decals for it. Laters Stuart
Nice picture you have made from the GP38's, the only ONR stuf I have ever seen are the cars from the old Northlander TEE train. The are now back in the Netherlands, to be repainted in the old TEE colors. I didn"t do the paintjob on the SD40-2 myself, so I can"t help you with the color. I bought this loco custom painted from PWRS in Vancouver BC.
Mart, Your SD40-2 is in the classic modern paint scheme dating from the 1970s, and there may be a few units still around like that, although highly weathered and barely recognizable. I like that scheme. It has more character than the more corporate "ONRail" now seen. I don't know the story behind the two types of yellow used, the orangy-yellow is more common than the lemony yellow and is more emblematic of the ONR, IMO. A trip to northeastern Ontario and an exploration of it's past and current operations is well worth it. Power ranges from Caterpillar diesel-equipped FP7s on passenger operations to several SD75i units. The country is beautiful, from the HQ at North Bay in the Canadian Shield, through the Temagami wilderness and gold country, to the clay plains way up there where limited farming is still carried out, to the endless lakes and rivers flowing north to tidewater at Moosonee, on the salt-water James Bay, leading to the Arctic Ocean. It would be a nice RR to model, although mining and forestry have declined greatly in recent years.
My final two for quite some time. My friend called me to tell me he was in dire need of some freight style rolling stock, of which I have plenty. Instead of buying/selling, we traded, and as a result of a negotiated trade earlier, I am a proud owner of a Kato GP38-2 PC, and a LifeLike GP20 in UP, for 16 freight cars with MT couplers. Both of us left the trade happy. The locos run exquisitely and are running now. I will be installing MT couplers, as the unit I got was never used before my friend had it, and it had the original rapidos. My install is the 1016 body mounts to the pilot piece to both, Still have a couple left. Ken "FloridaBoy" Willaman
Hmm, I got one "free" on points from PWRS...but had to lay out a couple of Gs on other stuff first. What was that saying about a free lunch?
Richard, A trip to northeastern Ontario is on my wishlist:tb-biggrin: but I think this won't happen untill our kids are grown ups. I have seen lots of pictures from the ONR on the web and I hope one day to make some pictures of the ONR and other North American railcompanies my selve.
Forgot to add this one. Check out the link for illustration of the lighting and sound effects. http://s415.photobucket.com/albums/pp233/eric220/?action=view¤t=100_1559.mp4
My buddy called me day before yesterday and wanted some old homepainted heavyweights I had from a friend's estate which I had no use for, but he was nuts about them. I traded him 6 of them and an N scale helicopter kit for an Atlas SD35 in ACL, which I already painted into PRR colors and livery. I had breakfast with him today, and I felt guilty as I feel I got the way better end of the deal so I gave him 3 more heavyweights. He was so ecstatic he bought breakfast!!!!
