First off, sorry this isn't an N scale post, but I think it's an interesting question and it will give you all something to reply to.

    EDIT: May 2007

I'm now 21 years old, going to school full time (Cal State Fullerton) and own and operate BLMA Models full time.

Craig. You stick to it and keep pulling those straight A's. Who knows. You might pull a few scholarships when you graduate from High School.
Sandy and I both draw our Social Security. I was retired until the medication prescriptions started climbing and the utilities went through the roof. I had to go back to work. I work as a Greeter at the local Wal-Mart store in Woodland, Ca. With the new rulings the anybody over 65 can work and make as much as they can sure helped. Without that Sandy and I couldn't make it.

    History.
Telegrapher for the SP for 8 years
    TV Tech. for 10 years.
Travel trailer industry for a couple of years.
Motel Managment for 20 years before retirement.

I was a machinist for 21 years. Got sick of the layoffs, strikes and plant closings. Now I work at the local hobby shop part time and I am a stay-at-home dad for my 16 month old son. The two best jobs I ever had. Mrs. zGERMAN brings in the big bucks now which thankfully has allowed me to take care of our son AND keep my trains. I definately have the utmost respect for housewife's everywhere. Keeping house and chasing a toddler around the house all day is a challenge. But I wouldn't trade it for anything! :D

For what it's worth, I am a fifth grade teacher and after (in order)5 years in the class room, 20 in administration, and 15 back in the class room, I plan to retire in June and start seeing this beautiful country with my wife in our new motorhome. Got to plan a layout I can take with me on the road!

I am a Art Director/Graphic Designer for an ad agency in Wichita, KS. I lead the print dept. I work on billboards, magazines, newspaper ads etc... It is a shame we can't land a railroad as a client... that would be great. We do have Cessna Aircraft as a client... kind of cool. Good post I will keep checking back, I am interested to see the responses.

I have been a Conductor for the BNSF in Northern California for 4 years. Before that I went to school and worked various low paying jobs.

    Craig,

If you want to hire on with the railroad sooner is better than later senority wise. You are guarinteed to get furloghed so think about hireing out to establish a senority date, and going to school on your off time.

I am a medical technologist, and have been for over 23 years. I've worked in clinical laboratories in hospitals from 30 to 600 beds in size, and am currently back in north Texas after being in Colorado for 3 1/2 years (my mother-in law was very ill' and my wife wanted to come back to take care of her)

I'm back working in Paris, at my old stomping grounds. We're being sold to a firm out of Tennesee, who will take over on January 1. I work the evening shift, and rotate between the two campuses.

BNSF's ex-Frisco main runs a couple of blocks east of the house, and DGNO keeps motive power here as well. Plus, I'm not too far from two great railfanning spots- Saginaw, TX and Tower 55 in Ft. Worth.

Hey Bobcat! Do you ever get Jewish "Halava" (sp) candy over here in the U.S.? The Delli I used to be able to buy slices from, closed up when the proprietor died a number of years ago now. I have been unable to find it since then. Down here in Red-Neck country, the so-called Delli people have no idea what I am talking about, and their food is NOT Kosher.

I haven't had any chicken krepla soup with maltza ball either! RATZ!

I would order it mailorder if you could mail Halava to me???? Email me and let me know, along with an address and price per 1/4 or even 1/2 pound, OK? Thanks.

    WHAT DID I DO:

My resume is probably 16 pages by now, so quickly; at nine years old, my first paycheck job was parts washer and go-fer for the Kerns John Deere Tractor Shop at Aline, Oklahoma. During High School, I operated a spot welder, threw newspapers and worked as an auto spray-painter and torch welder. During the summers, I worked with a crew on a dig in the old Spanish mines at Menard, Texas, looking for the silver they stored there. After High School, I became a tool and die and mold maker, eventually finished getting a BSME and was an engineering designer and professional model maker for various companies until my retirement in 1995. Since my wife chooses to continue work, (Administrative Assistant with a big company, lots of seniority), I now do dishes, wash clothes, and perform housework under duress or else! The rest of the time I work on my layout, or harass people on the TrainBoard!

I would tell more, but I am a man of few words, (and most of them spelled wrong due to old age)! :D
