31 years as an electrical engineer for an engineering and construction company. Too much moving to ever get a layout halfway finished, but I keep trying!

I guess I haven't put anything here yet so here it goes.I am a conductor/switch foreman for the NS in Decatur IL.I can go from Decatur to St. Louis,Decatur to Frankfort IN.,Decatur to Peru IN.,or I can switch cars in Decatur yards.I used to go from Decatur to Chicago and Decatur to Peoria IL.
Other than that I like to play trains with my two kids and ride my ATV's with my wife and kids.I have a 2002 Banshee and a 2002 all black RAPTOR.I also belong to the Bloomington N-Trak club along with Mopac,EDNS,ROYAL BLUE,and MAX PLANT.
That pretty much takes up all of my time.

I've been a Christian pastor of the United Church of Christ for almost 27 years, currently serving as Senior Pastor of a 1000+ member church -- and no, I don't only work an hour a week-- but I wouldn't change my work for anything (well, maybe as a salesperson in a hobby shop or hardware store for $50,000 a year).

Well I have been reading this thread for a while and decided I'd better post too. I am a CADD Technician, (Computer aided Design Draftsman) I work for a chemical weapons disposal unit contracted to the US government. I just started with them, I was unemployed for 11 months, it's nice to be 'gainfully employed' again. I model D&RGW, UP, SP, WP and a smattering of the Utah in both HO & N Scales.

I guess all this could be found in my Profile, but what the heck.
I'm a Shift Supervisor/One Hour Photo Lab Tech for CVS/Pharmacy. But I wouldn't call it a "living'. That's what my Model Trains are for! :D The job is so I can have the trains! [IMG]

Hi . I guess I should throw in my 2 cents worth. Thats 2 cents Canadian so only worth about 1 cent U.S.

I am a Chartered Accountant. Thats like a CPA in the U.S . I spent much of my working life with McCormick & Co., the spice people in Baltimore. I lived there for 7 years.

I now live in London Ont.

I am retired so I do have some time to work on my layout. I have a 10 x 13 room that is all mine.
I've been collecting N scale stuff since 1970 but this is the first layout I have actually built.

This topic asked what modelers do, and I don't model, so paid it no mind. I just read it and see what I have been missing! Craig, pursue your degree, you will never regret it, especially when you retire. The degree will ensure "When" and not "If".
I have a degree in Electrical Engineering like so many more of you. I worked for Lockheed Aircraft in Engineering Flight Test for 33+ years. They actually paid me to fly. We fixed things that design engineers overlooked, perfecting airborne systems of all types, from air-to-air missiles to coffee makers. I have left blood on F-104's, SR-71's, L-1011's, U-2's, F-117's and an ES-3A. I loved it..
Somehow I messed up and took a management job. I agree with what Watash said and would rephrase it some: You can fix airplanes but you can't fix people. That led to my retirement. Been married to my childhood sweetheart for over 40 years, and we have two grown, married daughters and three grandchildren.
I chase and ride 12 inch to the foot scale steam locomotives. :D

Hello, my name is Robert Shaffer and I have been in the military for 25 years. I am currently stationed at Fort Rucker, AL. I am a Chief Warrant Officer Four (CW4) and an OH58D Kiowa Warrior Maintenance Test Pilot. In other words I am a paid guinea pig to test out a repair that was made to the aircraft by the maintenance crew  [IMG] . I am in the process of gathering the material to model the Wiregrass Central Railroad in Enterprise, AL (just outside the Fort Rucker gate).

I am a Artilery Metoroligist Man, basicly I tell the gun batteries what they need to know about the wind and air pressure and how it affects the big old 155MM Howlitzers rounds. Its a cool job and i really enjoy it. my rank is a Privite First Class (E-2) for all you non marines.

well hell, I cant let a thread go 8 pages and not have my name in it.

I'm a mainframe computer automation specialist. I've only been doing automation since 94, but I;ve been in the puter industry since 79. I contract out my services for whoever has the $$$ (off to Finland this Thursday via Thailand and Germany).

I'm a born again railroader, and I preach even harder than the born again christians! Obviously, I prefer N scale, even if wifey DOES have me building a HO layout for her.

With all the military types posting on here, I just have to chime in. This month marks my 12th anniversary in the world's greatest Navy. I am currently serving on a forward deployed ship on Guam. I am a Legalman, equivalent to a paralegal in the civilian world. I provide legal assistance to the ship's crew, as well as dealing with trouble makers. In November I will be transferring to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, which is north of Chicago. I will also have a side room in my dad and stepmom's house to build my first model empire, which will be a BNSF layout in N scale.
Is anyone out there familiar with paper mills? Are there any in Illinois? I would like to model one. If I have to, I'll move one down from Wisconsin!

    Hi there,
This post is getting mighty long, thought I would join in too.

I work as an IT consultant and a PERL programer on the web. Basicly I consult, teach and do web design.
Also I am a part time computer tech for Leggett Vally School District once a week.

One intresting thing is I live off grid. Off grid means I am my own power and water. There is no utility company except for the phone. Solar Panels, gravity powered water pumps, and over a mile of Mil Spec twisted pair Battle wire for 2 phone lines keeps me working.
