They wanted B40-8Bs, but GE said they wouldn't be any cheaper than engines with cabs. The closest thing to a C44-9B I've ever seen is http://www.railpage.org.au/pix/diesel/BHPCabless5664.jpg a CM40-8ML. Three were made, cabless verions of the CM40-8M http://www.railways.pilbara.net.au/dash8_42.html CM40-8Ms are essentially CM40-8s (Australian C40-8s http://www.railways.pilbara.net.au/dash8_39.html ) but built on C636 or M636 frames and trucks.

Now Rob, you're teasing me. Of course, if you were to make just about any North American Electric locomotive (or "motor" as us juiceheads are wont to call them) I would buy it.

    Oh how I yearn for an EP-5, W-1, EL-C, E33, E44, P5a, P5a modified, Little Joe, Bi-polar, AEM-7, Acela, HHP-8, the list goes on and on.

You know, those are the same engine, also known as EL-3a and EF-4.
I wish for the same list, too, but in N scale plastic... even though there's no way I could use all of them, and I'll probably never need any of them.

    Back to an older post...
And, as I've explained before on this board, the SD70ACe uses the SD70MAC frame.

    Randy,

See now, you got it all wrong. The motor in the Z scale locomotive is an electric motor. Finding a Z scale sizes coal burner or diesel motor would be much too difficult.

So there you have it, the next release (and all releases from AZL) will be electric.

    LOLL!!!!!

Nope, it may have an electric motor but I'll put money that it will be steam. A nice non-Pacific, non-Mikado type. That's where my money will be. If that 4 lead digit comes off the price tag, I'm game.

I would hope it's a locomotove that the NP had, then I would buy them. So far, the only brass AZL I own are 4 SD45's, because NP had them.

So, what can AZL release in brass steam that SP had? Maybe a USRA 0-8-0? Everything else in steam I would spend big money on needs to be NP specific. So how do we turn Hans away from boring old SP and into NP Supersteam?

Now Robert, not everything AZL has done in brass is SP. SP never had any F45's.

Randy, are you sure about that? They came darn close to having F45s and AZL offered them!

Close only counts horseshoes and handgrenades!

The merger never went through and the F45's never ended up on the SP roster. Notice that's an SF on the side, not an SP. ;-)

AZL has only released GS3s, GS4s and Cab-Forwards, all very distinctively SP. I noted here http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=62520 and more specifically http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=62520&page=2 that Z scale has a western bias. Yes, tunnel motors and F45s have come east now, on regionals and shortlines... but those paint schemes weren't offered.

Anyway, what I think Z needs is new plastic steam. Some type of steam switcher, a Consolidation, a 2-10- and some Mallets would go a long way.
