When I lived in Boise I listened to Country and Metal, the 2 most popular forms of music there. When I moved to Salinas in '95 my only choices were Hip-Hop and Mexican Mariachi (which sounds just like polka's to me) So I fall out of the population and off the bell curve of Model Railroaders all together and listen to Mary j. Blige, Eminem, Olivia, 'lil Bow Wow, Ginuwine, Eightball, Trina, Missy Elliot and the like. It's considered Pop music out here, and I was the only white boy at work, so I had to go with the flow. I actually like it now too!
When I am in the train room there is usually rock & roll on the sound system. My other passion, after trains, is music. I have the sound system in the den and a 5 speaker setup in the train room. Good clean sound is what I am after, and rock & roll is what I was raised on. I like to listen to all the groups that I have seen in concert, and the list is long. Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Beatles, The Who. Jimmy Hendrix, ZZ Top, Steve Miller, PINK FLOYD, Eagles, The BOSS, Led Zepplin, Ten Years After, CSN & Y, Mountain, Allmann Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the list goes on. Thank GOD for CD players, FM rock radio is beguinning to leave a lot to be desired! MARK
I'm a classic guy so I listen exclusively to two Public Radio stations. I either am tuned in to classical music or the news/commentary.
Talk about off the bell curve - I'm beyond earshot! I have more than 7,000 songs (no compulsiveness problem here!!) which range from Glenn Miller to Guns 'n Roses. I like putting them in random sequence, hearing Bob Seger, Tony Bennett, Cliff Richard, Pink Floyd, Celine Dion and the Stones mix it up. Eclectic to the max Never knowing what to expect while I'm applying 5 million decals to one of Alan's Maxi III's keeps my interest level up and cussing level down! Hey, you asked!!!
Jimmuy Buffettl, "{Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Beatles, The Who. Jimmy Hendrix, ZZ Top, Steve Miller, PINK FLOYD, Eagles, The BOSS, Led Zepplin, Ten Years After, CSN & Y, Mountain, Allmann Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd" like the rock and roll......
Like UP Steve, i have about 2100 cuts on the computer and many that he mentioned alon with a variety.Generally working on the layout, its classic rock from pink floyd and zepplin to moody blues and rolling stones. However, when working on structures,i tone down to some good finger picking guitar like Don Ross ,Doyle Dykes and Oscar Lopez.
Stones, Pearl Jam, Led Zep, even some Public Enemy! All over the board. And I whole heartedly agree the FM radio comment. Internet radio has replace FM as the place to hear new music. Just haven't gotten it into my train room.
As Bob said, nothing wrong with that, BUT I will say you probably also get the ocassional "tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, thump, boom, bang" effect too!!! From the train derailing, just to agrivate the good sound of flawless track work!! HA!
hehe, i know i get the click click click clunk crunch thudd sounds sometimes when im not listening to music. happened just today.
Since not all the wheels on my rolling stock are metal (matter of fact, not many metal wheels at all)), not much wheel-on-rail sounds. But oh, the sounds of wheels on ties !
Where I live, just off Long Island Sound on the south shore of CT. We can pick up a very nice NPR jazz station on Long Island. It's locked into the rather dusty and dirty stereo in the train room, when I can get the cd to work, it's green frog train sounds.
HMMMMMM, where does one start, one end , SRV, A good looking female sax player, by the name of candy dulfer, metalica, jim reeves, patsy, bob wills , asleep at the wheel. ( takes a breath), Hall and oats, billy idol, greg khin band,,, roy orbison, and the list goes on, also some cowboy poetry by the likes of riders in the sky, waddie mitchell, don edwards, red steagall, and the #1 cowboy singer, chris ledoux, basicaly anything my puter spits out, I listen to, and sure is nice coming out of a surround sound set of cerwin vegas and some polk audio, adios from texas
listen to an oldies station on my radio, WOGL-FM, and sometimes I'll listen to the radio through my computer-the "radio" setting on AOL. When I do that, I like to listen to some of the old radio shows from the 40-50s, like JACK BENNY, or FIBBER McGEE & MOLLY, or GUNSMOKE.
It depends on what I'm doing and the mood I'm in. When I'm reading articles or surfing railroad sites, I prefer classical if I have had a hard day at work, or need to unwind and Irish/Keltic folk at other times. Whenever I am working on models or on the layout it has to be Jazz. And whenever I am running trains it is Rock (both soft and hard) if it has been a hard day and Country if I am in a relaxed state. Terry
music for relaxation (i.e. tony o'connor and similar), classics, rock but most of the time goa or trance
In the area I live we also have a public radio station that plays jazz and blues. It's also available on the net for those interested at www.wemu.org/listen.html. That's what my radio is on most of the time. Doug
