    Gerd,
I got some from ebay .005" and .008" thick. You can go thinner if you want finer details. I used to get some from KS metals too.

My boxcar fleet is missing a double slide door boxcar, so I did a experiment. To my surprice, the double door does fit into a ribside. Its not prototype, but it will do until one comes out.

Nice work Torsja, I can't wait to see more! :D

I'm working on Woodchip Hoppers, and Loads today:

What I do is cut a piece of foam rubber to fit the woodchip hoppers, then trim the top edges to a just filled profile.

Next I paint the top of the foam with thick white latex craft paint, and dip the foam load into a box of dry grass colored ground foam.

When the paint dries, after an hour or so, I spray the tops of the loads with Dullcote, and dip them one more time in the ground foam, and after dry, they are ready to put in my woodchip hoppers.

    Simple huh? ;)

Robert, for your wood chips, could fine sawdust be use instead? With its natural color, I would think that It would simulate wood chip with great results!

On my side I'm working on my [FONT=&quot]CN Pointe Saint Charles caboose.

Here I'm doing tests with the 3D tool to create a 2 parts funel, I was prety succesfull with this techniques.

Here, working on my paint scheme, pantone 485 C is not an easy color to reproduce, it is semi-red and semi-orange, sigh!

I use sawdust. My son does a lot of woodworking so I had him save several small containers of different types of sawdust. I sift these though a fine screen that you might find in your wife's bath powder. I take a piece of card stock about 6" long by 4" wide and fold it sharply along the 6" length so you have sides 2" wide. Pour the sawdust into that and then pour the sawdust onto your form out the "V" shaped end card stock.

I just made some coal loads, and used a chunk of anthracite hammered to "dust" and then sifted. My form is just a scrap piece of the regular blue foam you use in the layout and cut to about 1/8" thick to fit in the top of the hopper. Glue a couple of pieces of foam to give a ROUGH shape of coal heaped in the hopper. Use a file to round off the corners a little. It does NOT have to be accurate. Use copious amounts of black acrylic paint on the foam. While the paint is still wet pour on the coal from the folded card stock. Shortly thereafter, use a brush and dab a little wet water and white glue on the surface and pour on a little more coal. Because it is poured into place it will take the shape of coal being poured prototypically into the hopper. There is nothing better looking than Z Scale coal which is really Anthracite real coal.

Those CN Vans look fantastic Ben! [IMG]Are the smokejacks 2 parts, rastered 1/2 round, then glued together? They look real nice!

I tried real sawdust for some woodchips in N Scale years ago, but after a couple years they turn darker and finally a grayish color, so I just use ground foam now.

Yes that is exactly the process, it needs quite a few tests run to get it just right though, especially since the Epilog works with shades of gray only because when doing 3D, the power level are always at the same level. I know that the LaserPro works with power level when doing 3D, I notice this when I worked on the spirit GE for a full week when I was giving training on it, I like better the power level when doing 3D tests, but hey! I'll have to stick with what I have. pipes and water sprout can be done with this techique. It is way better than using paper clips.
