"Your" latest project? Don't let the wife hear that! :D :D :D

Just kidding- I'm a father of four myself, and each one was a major blessing. They do take time from the layout, but they're worth every minute of your time, and then some.

He looks really cute. How's the mama doing?

Congratulations to you & the missus!! [IMG]

My most recent effort has been making several jigs to solder up some Milwaukee Road style trolley poles and catenary. The poles came out well. Am awaiting the wire to start soldering catenary.

I'm tinkering with my British-outline freight vans and experimenting with adding / hiding weights to the open trucks.

I'm also pondering how to plant a line-side fence in a wood-top layout.

I'm laying track on my first layout, a 2-shelf pike that's a Midwest shortline, a fictional subsidiary of the Milwaukee Road. I'm installing a wye right now. Although I will use 2 medium-size wyes (at each end), they take up more space than I wanted. The layout will have 2 shelves in an L shape. The largest shelf, 16'x 18", is what I'm working on now. The Property Department insists that I not put up the other shelf until this one is completed, or nearly completed. The shelf yet to be put up will be 8'x18". There will be small cities at the end of each shelf and 2 smaller towns in between. I'm electrically challenged, so doing the wiring will take some time.

Listen to the Property Department, by all means!!! [IMG] [IMG]

Sounds like an interesting configuration. Those wyes do take up a lot of room, however. Good luck on the wiring. With such a narrow area, it shouldn't be too bad. Hint, label every piece of wire!

re: PF2488's "latest project" I guess the words "layout" and "layette" are close enough. Cute kid. [IMG] [IMG] :D :D

Thanks for the good wishes. Kaitlin (SHE) is doing just fine, as am I.

I do try to give Garth some time to work on his layout but we all know how unpredictable newborns are! [IMG] [IMG]

Well I hit the wrong button again but that last message was supposed to be a quote. Anyway my wife and I named my son Michael and she thinks He is named after the Archangel. It was only later that I told her that his nickname is also a nickname for a steam engine. That was 26 years ago. She thought I was crazy then. How do women know these things?

You know from the real forums that I'm not a modeler. Certainly can't outdo Garth and Janet on their latest project. How about swabbing and recoating 1500 square feet of decks around the house? That was fun, but must be done here in the Pacific NW. :D

Well I've been rolling arround this idea the last couple of days but haven't had time to investagate it to see if this would be possible even.( ie scale of model, if they make one in 1/144 scale, size it would take to make it look right.) But here it goes. I'm think of making a small compressed port with a air craft carrier docked at it with a tug boat and rail service by the port. But I think the smallest scale air carft carrier is 1/250th. I don't think I well have the room or do i think i can find aboat in the scale i need. I think this would be cool if a guy could pull this off. maybe more in z-scale....any one have any idea's.

Roger H, You might want to check out the Submarine Chaser Class from WWII, these were quite small, somewhere back home I have prints for one that is about 135 actual feet long. And if you want a little bigger, there are the destroyers and such.

    Good luck!

I don't know if this qualifies as a "latest project". I finally got one of those "round tuits" and was able to get a lot of benchwork done for my layout. Since this is a rather large project (16' X 20' with a 12" peninsula and 2 levels) I'm building it in stages. Stage 1 is the yard and terminal at one end of the RR.

RoyalBlue and I are doing Santa Fe CG's. He's going to do them in Warbonnet Colors, I'm doing mine in Blue and Yellow Bonnet. We'll post some pics when they're done. We're using Trix CG's to do them! [IMG]

My latest project has been ongoing for quite a while. It is installing CNR winter cabs on most of my steamers and converting a lot of coal tenders to oil and a few oil to coal. Have done 8 cabs so far, have about 20 to go.

An Oil tender conversion to coal has been done on one 4-8-4 Bachmann Northern Vanderbuilt tender and coal tender to oil has been done on one Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolodation and two Kato 2-8-2 Mikados.

Wish I could post a photo of CNR Mikado 3557 with all her other detailing and her new winter cab and oil tender, from MY PC to the board. :(

I wonder how the fix for posting of pictures is coming along? [IMG]
