With regard to George Town Loop. I'm glad to hear it is now under new management. This will not correct all the issues the owners have but it will temporarily preserve the uniqueness of this historical railroad. I'd like to see the ownership moved to a railroad conservancy group or a museum group.
Jim, sent this one to me today. This one is for FriscoBob. He is south of a place made famous by a song sung by Glenn Campbell. Where is Jim157 - RailImages.com
We must of made that to easy...LOL! You got's it. More precisely, at the junction of Hwy's 74 and 55. Nice work!
Yessirree! Well, almost....you have the first part of the name correct. "I'm the line man from the county" Wichita Lineman, Glenn Campbell. This song does refer to Wichita, Kansas...I believe. That wasn't a trick hint...was it? Let's just say he hasn't left the Big Easy. He's somewhere near the Kansas state line in the Pan Handle. You can visit Wichita ______, but take a umbrella. For those Santa Fe Fans, did you notice the unpatched, Santa Fe, War Bonnet? .
Going west young man? Where is Jim157 - RailImages.com We wouldn't be underpowered....would we? Here's a hint. This is near a crash site that has caused speculation to this day.
If you're referring to Wichita Falls, Texas, it's south of the Oklahoma state line a ways. Almost due south of Lawton, OK, and at the tail end of I-44. But, it's a pretty decent place to start pacing the FW&D to either Amarillo or Ft. Worth. At any rate, still gotta go thru the Sooner State to get to Kansas from WF............. These are pretty good pics, BTW- wonder if he has any along I-44, or on US69 along the former Katy main?
Nope, have not had the pleasure of that run yet. I have been up in your neck of the woods in OK, at the Georgia Pacific plant then had to go to Phoenix. Have to go the route they tell me. I spend most of my time in the 11 western states with ocasional trips out here. The flat land kills me nothing like going over donner in the winter or getting snowed in Wyoming or freezing in North Dakota.
OOP's LOL Back to Geography 101. You are so right. Correction one whole state away and near the border of Oklahoma. I got a good laugh out of Beer, Nebraska. Jim, Just a reminder of where you've been. This might cool that cab of yours... down. Where is Jim157 - RailImages.com We see snow like this here in the San Bernardino Mountains. I usually elect to stay home and enjoy my heaters.
yep remember that trip quite well had just finished putting on chains all around the tractor and trailer was cold wet and mad. What a great combination soaking wet getting teeth knocked by chain vibration and doing a whole 10mph but the clue is this. From the Moutians to the Sound the pass is up there, so is Stampeed Pass, used by the BNSF have i said to much.
Jim, You give the best clues or hints. I never drove truck in this kind of weather but I've driven a hearse fully loaded many a time. I don't care what anyone says. It isn't fun driving in this stuff. Putting chains on while wearing a suit...not funny.
I think that me and the truck were the only 2 brave enough or should i say dumb enough 2 do this, dont remember what was in the trailer but it had 2 b 2 safeway by 1100 that morning.
A new day and a new start. We still have one picture hanging out here and having an identity crisis. I'm surprised our New Mexico, rail fans haven't picked up on this one. Where is Jim157 - RailImages.com Think area 51, and UFO's.
Here's another, I believe, from the same state of New Mexico. If not within miles of the same location as the train pictured in the previous post. Where is Jim157 - RailImages.com Check out the two hoppers and the locomotive lash-up. I have lot's to do today and the energy to do it. I won't be on line during the day but I will be back to check out the progress later this evening. If you all are tiring of this I can back off and try again later.
Fun in the snow? We risk our limbs and lives to get the finished product through in time. Yep, one has to wonder. I never minded driving in winter conditions. My main concerns, I worried about the fool hearted flat landers. They would do some funny, amazing and heart breaking tricks on the roads. I was more afraid of them hitting me then the other way around. It is no wonder that Cal Trans and the Chips close the mountain roads down at the first sign of snow. Our local yocals can give you a scare from time to time. Those patches of hard ice aka black ice can give you a spin. These mountain roads can be treacherous and do take lives. Hey, you got through and it looks like you weren't totally alone on that road. Judging from the tail lights ahead of you. Perhaps, no company and probably had his CB off. Now, I've got to get busy with feeding the animals, myself and getting chores done.
Wheres Jim??? Those 2 last pics should be North of Roswell NM. some where between Roswell and Portales NM. Just a guess due to the mountains in the back ground. HEMI would appreciate the DGR&W lash up though.... Keep them coming. I like seeing the country from Jim's lens. :tb-biggrin::tb-biggrin:
Stan, Wow, good guess. It's not like Jim to be that far off one of the major freeways in New Mexico, exception being a delivery. I think Jim was thinking he took them some where around Deming, New Mexico. In which case my hints were most likely misleading. I know the old Rock Island terminated at Tucumcari, NM where they handed off to the SP. Just not sure SP had tracks into Roswell and Portales. Must look at my old maps. Edited add on: Well, you had me going for a bit. The old AT&SF running west to east, from Belen to Vaughn, Clovis and on up to Amarillo had a spur line that ran from Clovis south to and terminating at Roswell, NM. Most likely the tracks you were thinking about. I just got off the phone with Jim and he said he was on Int., Hwy #10 near the junction of State Hwy#70 somewhere around Deming, NM., when he took the two pic's. Now back to our regularly scheduled program. Looking at the two D&RGW hoppers tied in behind the locomotives is a bit of a sight. Jim thought someone might appreciate them.
