I just decaled a Walthers Russell plow, and I have 3 Geep 40 variants, and 2 SD50s that are in the paint shop.... Pics soon! Here's her prototype, in Glenwood Springs, CO this March:
Hemi, I'm looking forward to the pics! How did you get the shot from that side of the tracks? I've only been able to access it from the road on the other side. Ben
Public highway--and a 10X zoom helps... I have it decaled to loosely resemble the 1985 pic of her in Minturn. Loosely, because I don't have a week to cobble up decals to match the LT WT, built date, and wherever the lube plates are....
Thanks for the info. Next time I'll spend a little more time getting over to the other side of the tracks. I'm sure that you have already seen the picture below but I'll post it here in the event that it might help with your detailing. Ben
Yep, seen it, & I love that snow in the shot, too! Here's my humble effort, and one of these days, I need to swap out the smoke stack, and add tha funny oversized brakewheel.
Hemmi Is that N or HO modeling? If HO where did you get the X-67 decals? I have the Walthers model, and want to paint it in the Orange scheme...But then I have to decal and I just don't know which set to get. Thanks Paul H. Liddiard working on 3 GP60s for the Grande.
Paul, it's N. I cobbled together decals from 3 Microscale sheets. Orange DRGW cabooses, MOW Roman lettering, and the black, silver & orange caboose Microscale sheets. The caboose sheets yielded the BHM dates (I think that's what it says). I decaled it to match the shot in the Jim Eager Color Guide to F/P equipment book. The lettering in the book photo was not very legible, so I guesstimated what I couldn't make out.
I just realized, the rear wheel of the trailing truck on X-67 is on the ground. Maybe I should swap pizza-cutter back on? I tossed Lo-pros on, as they are already brown. Thanks, guys!
I masked the cab and sill of a single SD50 tonite; they came out nearly perfect! 1 down, 4 more (1 SD50, 3 GP40/40-2's) units to go! Pics when the unit is finished. Not superdetailed, but Sunrise plow, side hood bell, and MARS lite are installed. I loaded up on Sunrise parts a year before the supply dried up, for this very project. So glad I did! *whew* I may add Sunrise MU hoses, and BLMA shades as well, but that may wait for a later date.
One more SD50 down, and all the cabs are done. I masked a GP40 sill, and when I removed the tape, about 20% of the sill's Aspen Gold paint peeled up! GRRRR! Remask, re-shoot. Now I need to mask again,a nd repaint the walks, since I forgot to mask them. Came out better, but still.....
looking good! They look so much better when you get the decals on though! I need to get off my duff and get some painting done myslef. PHL
D7RGW Power Looking like a good start there. What paint are you using for the D&RGW "Aspen Gold?" Floquil once made it but I havent seen the paint in a solvent base for a while.
The honey-do list hit this weekend. Christmas tree, lights on the house, build more shelves, tidy up workbench, install pagboard to get tools out of reach of toddler son, etc, etc....
