I should add that the X2011 West Facebook team's job is far from over.
We are now in the post-convention phase, moderating and facilitating
the many many many post-convention posts, sharing, and recaps that
are swelling the forums and X2011 West Facebook this morning.

All really good stuff and indicative of how much more happened than
any one individual, club, or team could see at X2011 West and
National Train Show, visible to a worldwide audience that couldn't be there,
and as a documentary record that is available online for worldwide
viewing right now while the convention's just 1 day over.

    Enjoy that info at:

    http://facebook.com/x2011west

If you wish to see what I mean. No Facebook account required to see and
observe, you won't be flooded with X2011 West content if
you click on the link above, you'll be just a 'viewer' of the over 340 photos
and 25+ videos and most of all, what others said and discussed about the X2011
    West and National Train Show.

We are also in the post-convention learning phase. Valid comments were made about
    'hey, how do I opt-in or opt-out from real-time coverage?" We're investigating
how we could do this better next time. We need to make sure all users have
options in Facebook to 'tune down' or 'turn up' or segment coverage.

We'll be reporting on that soon, and making sure that future Facebook
endeavors know how to prep users for giving
    them those options as well.

Thx, all, and continue the comments pls!

Had a busy weekend so couldn't chime in. Plus, the camera on my phone is acting wonky so I don't know if I got any pictures at all.

The Openhouse at the club went very very well. 65 people on the bus itself and a good number of people coming on their own. And that was despite the fact that the NMRA apparently couldn't give decent directions to save themselves. My club is on the Placer county fair grounds so you have to park in a parking lot and walk in. NMRA should have made that clear.

Went to the train show Saturday and left with sore feet and a whole bunch of ideas. My favorite layouts were the arsenal of freedom, the Freemo HO layout and the modular layout from Alberta canada. Those guys took lights and animation to a new level. The Freemo layout had some of the best scenery I've ever seen in a modular style layout. Talking to some of the Freemo guys, they said all the static grass on the layout was done with the home made flyswatter style applicator which gives me some hope that that method will work for me too.

Probably the only product that caught my eye was that the Walther's El Capitan and that was mainly, because they said they got a lot of requests to do the Skylounge in Amtrak Pacific Parlour colors which I've been wanting for a while.

There were more hobby shops there than I expected. Which was nice, because I'm always on the lookout for shake the box kits. Only one vendor I saw actually had them priced reasonably though. Everyone else was at best pricing them at sticker.
It was also a good thing I didn't bring too much money with, because I would have spent it all at Scenic express. They did give us a free catalog though, because we were a club.

Did you know that selected X2011 West clinic handouts are available for free download, currently over 25+ already available on the X2011 "Clinic Handouts" webpage for download by anyone. Thx to all the clinicians for providing this, and thx and to Dave Grenier, the webmaster for X2011 West, "The Unconventional Convention" :

That was an interesting recap of the convention. Too bad I wasn't able to make it.

    Thanks for sharing.
