Here is one of the scenic dividers. From here the SP Main will be hidden through the small dog bone, while the ATSF Main will come out into Richmond Yard and the Intermodel facility.
The big rock out cropping at Pinole will cover the SP Trains going ito the opening, and houses will cover the ATSF opening.
Here's with the hills all the way to the divider. The higher flat area will have one of the houses on it, with another flat part to add soon.
AMAZING! I went down to the garage today to see how the plaster was curing, and already, a tree is growing! Just kidding. I actually have been going through drawers/boxes and digging out all the scenery material I have had and never got to use, and this tree is one I made in Ohio about 4yrs ago and put in a tupperware container. I KNEW I was going to get to use it someday. LOL
Today I spent inside. A new medication had my head swimming. But, I was able to mix some hydrocal and pour some rock castings.
This big one is going to take some carving to get it to look like the rock thats there, but it shouldn't be too bad.
A look farther back. I thought this would make a good cover for the trains going through the divider. And the real one.... You can see how the foliage looks in this last photo. Thats how I hope to blend the scenery into the divider, somewhat hiding the opening.
Boy, you're really rockin' now! (pun intended) For me building scenery is on of my favorite elements. That shoreline running is going to be phenomenal. Good choice using the rock outcropping to hide the hole in the scenic divide.
I know what you mean John! I have been waiting to get to this point! I think scenery is really a great part of this hobby. It's when the wood/cardboard/glue become more then just that, and becomes it's own little world. Tonight I started putting some of the rock castings in place. It's been really cold and windy today so I wasen't down there too long.
This section here is going to have the most castings. The other sections will have some, but they will be more of the rolling hills in the area. This is suppost to be closer to Martinez, where the hills get much steeper from the track.
Tomorrow I am going to mix more plaster and do more of the forming to get the shape of the hills I want here. I started, seen by the darker colored plaster tonight. I 'll let it set up some so I will have a firmer base to work from.
After I get that all in, I will start coloring the 'rocks' and then get some ground foam and trees in. Still going to go higher on the base, but not yet. I want to get this section done first, so I'll have a better idea how high to go with the next rise.
Jerry - That's looking great so far. Starting to really look like the bay -- love these updates, keep 'em coming!
