Jman, In time I'm sure you will find yourself having a go. It's only been the past 2 years that I started to adventure from RTR and have never looked back.
I guess I am going to have to get cracking on my other cabeese I picked up 2 more model power bay window cabeese to build 2 more shorties. The members here at Trainboard are going to have a fleet of Mopac cabeese when its all said and done. BTW Colonel what trucks are you using for your cabeese are they MT painted red?
Paul, On my Short Bay Window i used MT painted red however on this i'll paint the Atlas accumates red.
This evening I added new side posts, I wasnt sure what to use then it hit me I used a strand of copper electrical wire which seemed to be just the right thickness. The pics show thw supports after they were glued to the existing railings. I have also now painted the caboose red and will add some decals tomorrow.
This morning I finished the Cupola caboose. The first pic shows the caboose after I had finished painting. The next two pics show the decaling finished. This shot shows the 3 cabeese that have now been completed. The last shot is a comparison of the same Rock Island caboose I started with and the finished MoPac caboose. Still two more caboose projects in the wings than that should finish it. I may also sell two of my original brown MT cabeese in the near future.
Yesterday due to poor weather I decided to look for a simple project to do. I had two Microtrains MoPac cabooses but it always bothered me why these were sold without windows. I used some plastic from a Trainworx box to glue window panes in place. I then added a few extra detail decals and white stips on the front and back. I also browsed a few sites and found a couple more cabeese I may do in the near future.
The MT sure look better. That is the kind of thing I like to do. You could cover some windows on one. That would make them different. Paint safety appliances white. MT never does that. That last caboose looks like your others except for different colors. Excellent job, Colonel. The kitbashers are winning!!
Wow Paul. You could model Sedalia, MO caboose shops with your lot. I believe that the blue shorty caboose is post-UP merger with UP converting some to MOW use. ~Tim
Tim, You are correect there were used for MOW use. Michael, I stumbled across it on the fallen flags site
