As for yours truly, I took on the task of putting in a river crossing. I am using a plastruct kit for the truss bridge.

Final dimensions of the kit will be 17" long and 2.75" wide. Here is where it goes:

First we remove the visible foam.

Then I drill a half inch hole into the fascia to insert the skill saw.

Here's how it looks after I removed the fascia.

After using a sawzall to cut out the excess subroadbed it looks like this:

Then I began to add back foam for the landforms.

The next step is to complete the bridge and remove the existing roadbed. Once we have a removable bridge in place, I can take apart the other obstructions; like the backdrop, and add more foam to finalize this phase of the new scene.

We'll have to begin the scenery portion after all this gets done.

Was this bridge an afterthought? Or had it always been planned?

Actually there were going to be 4 crossings of the Cedar River, but space left us with only one. I kept passing this spot thinking it would work, so I'm going to try.

Interesting. I am sitting here thinking about it and the PCR then MILW line crossed the Cedar River quite a few times, getting down out of the hills. Somehow had never pictured it in mind quite this way, but now I am realizing just how much that stream wandered, before it got down to Renton.

What really helps is this does not appear to parallel the backdrop and benchwork edge. :)

John, it looks great. Being a bridge fan, I'd say you nailed it.

Michael, be sure to add some graffiti to the abutments. It's always there. Also, a good streaking of rust down the abutment faces where the bearings would sit. Those old truss bridges bleed rust like crazy.

Speaking of bridges, I'm starting a work project for a trade show this winter. I'm building a replica of a cable-stayed bridge. It will be 16' long with a 30" wide deck. The stay mast (pylon) will be 8' tall. Gonna be fun!

Thanks guys! Boxcab, yes, it is not parallel... the track cuts across the opening at an angle. Dale, you cannot see it in the pictures, but on the other side, there is graffiti. After, I installed the bridge, I had a friend watching my house while I was out of town. It took me about two weeks to notice that he put the graffiti on the abutment after I got home! LOL! JMS

Sounds like something Wain would do on my vacation.

While I'm occupied on business, the boys still met for a work party. Wain had the line of the night, explaining this pic to me:

His comment was essentially, "Doug trying to make sure his parking lot scene did not get up and run away." Reminded me of the old, is your refrigerator running gag.

I often talk about Ed and the lighting project. Don't really post a lot of pics on that, but Wain sent me this:

That's an 80 years young dude crammed under the lower deck of the railroad. My hats off to him for everything he does.

I asked Bob if he would build my cell tower. It is part of a scene on the hillside above the lumber mill. Here is how it looks:

    Up close detail:

Finally, Wain got his out of bounds fence in the ground. He still needs to run the boundary wire, but here is how it looks:

A great night. Thanks to my guys, what a crew. Thanks for checkin in....

Looks great! Also, like the golf course coming out of the picture and onto the layout! Did you have a picture first, and then make the path on the layout? Or, did you make the path, and then have to find the "correct" picture? I think I know how you did it? And, I think I know how I would have done it? LOL! JMS
