It seems that the logging group is history. So i thought i would post some pictures of the logging rr i have right now. I don't have all the track laid out yet. Starting that this fall but most of the scenery and buildings are completely done. This layout have gone through the planning stage for about 5 years and as i started the layout the plan was changed several times. Its about 50 % done but like i have heard, 'the layout will never be completely done'. I don't know where the past pictures have gone or if they were left in the group site or ?? Have a few to post. The latest shots are of the trees installed. I have the stumps in. Logs cut all over. Parts of the logging camp is done but don't have the skidder and Spar tree and the barnhart loader isn't built yet. It will slow down this fall as Deb and I are moving to Texas for my health and we will be closer to family. East side near I-10 And border with Louisiana. S.E. corner of Texas. We are starting to get ready for the trip so much of the layout will be put on hold till we get there. I just hope it survives the trip. For those who didn't know it, We live in a rv and fulltime all over the country. We haven't taken a trip in two years now. This last move will most likely be our last move or trip. I can go fishing or swimming and do more to the layout. Shots of where we are with the layout. Dan
It still exists. Our site owner has as yet been unable to import it, get it integrated into this wholly different software. He is trying.
Thanks fellow. From what i heard that one was gone as there wasn't enough posting to it. Glad it will come to this site, Dan
I like the layout. I'm not a 'logging' guy...but that doesnt mean I cant appreciate what others who are do. Hope the move goes ok and the layout makes it there ok.
The real Greenbrier is a lazy river but upstream is can be like parts of the layout river. Got to be good fishing. I have found some figures that have there fishing rods and will be trying out there luck! The main reason i picked the logging layout was my youth. I worked in a sawmill and always enjoyed the smell that came from the wood. I miss that so i made this "home" for me. I am getting all kinds of things for the layout. And some already coming. We will be going down to Texas to live there. And we will be checking it out the last week of the month. On the way back i am going to stop at Mike Fifers and get my supply's and check out his new layout and the new section he has been working on. We hope to be in our new home for us in November.
I got one of the things for the logging camp in yesterday. This kit came from a co. named Shapeways. Never heard from them before. Its a Barnhart loader for the logging cars. Nice little loader. Still not finished yet but have a couple of shots of the little unit. Dan
That looks like a fun build. I've been wanting to get something from Shapeways for a while now. I look forward to seeing it completed.
Yep! I really like it and was easy to put together. I have to wait while it drys so maybe tomorrow it will be done .. or close. Been working to hard need a big break. Getting close to moving and its taking the heart right out of me. I am doing too much to quick. So i am taking a break and maybe if i feel up to it i can do something more. I have been pounding myself to get it done. Haven't had much time for trains or much of anything else. Anyway, thanks and will bring up pictures when it is finished, Dan
http://www.shapeways.com/marketplace/miniatures/model-trains?li=nav Must be some kind of new company or something. There is lots for different scales. Maybe we can get them to list here on this site. I think they would get more business if they did. Don't know who handles this but i would check into this if i was the staff on this site. I hope i didn't break any rules about the company. if i did, i'm sorry. Dan
Ok, Just don't know all the advertising folks and don't want to break rules and or step on toes. I just saw a link above in another thread and saw the list of i guess supporters? I was glad to see Fifer Hobby. I get most of my stuff,(95%) from him. He and Robin are super! Thanks again, Dan
Shapeways is a 3D printing company. Designers can upload their designs and then customers can order and the products are produced on demand. I bought some very nice non-functional streetlamps from them a while back. Impressive detail.
Glad to see that someone is finally producing one. They saw a lot of use among any number of logging outfits. Another term for them sometimes was a slide back loader and they would be mounted on usually the last car in a string of empty log flats. The loader was on skids and as it loaded a car it would pull itself forward to the next car and continue until it ended up on the car right behind the engine. If it was going to be used to offload also it would travel in the train in that location reversing the process at the offload location. In some cases where it wasn't needed at the off load point it was simply left on the car and the car left at the loading point and the log train proceeded to the off load point without it.
the loader ben out for about4 years. it was done by Walter vair .T he Showcase Miniatures person. check there wed site have 2
try (image Repilicas)) if you are looking for a Mc Giffert loader check ScottHoffernscale models. both on shapeway
Cool!, I didn't know about this company but for a couple of weeks now. I am glad that others can use the info as well. I am stringing the cables on it right now. Maybe tomorrow i can have it finished. Have a couple of shots of it on the car and on the loader park. I still have a bit more weathering to finish on it. I like it. Dan
