Contract work, I don't doubt that they are. Or they are doing work for the California Sacramento Railway Museum as the two are tied into each other. It would certainly be a way to raise money for Railtown.

I wonder if Jamestown is pretty much the same as I remember it? Before being diagnosed with the sugar disease, my favorite was the candy shop. And now you know why. Anyway, it's all good and some day I hope to be able to make a return visit to renew old memories.

Sierra Railway Shay #2 special charter to Sonora. January 2001

The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum chartered Shay #2 and 4 coaches to run from The Junctions in Sonora, down to Jamestown and back. I followed the #2 and her consist from Jamestown up to Sonora, then rode the train with everyone else. Train was sold out, and had 4 completely full cars! It was certainly a risk to try this in January, but luckily it was a beautiful day. The #2 developed some sort of issue, and had to stop several times to be checked over..you can hear something clicking in her gears. It was a fantastic trip and nothing has been done like it since.

Sierra Railway #3 runs special to Sonora first time in 20 years!

Sierra Railway #3 runs light up to the former Sonora depot location. There she coupled onto the Holiday train, and was on display for 3 hours. This was a special event, held as a thank you to the community for rallying to help save Railtown 1897 when it was threatened with closure earlier this year. This was the first trip to Sonora the #3 has made since 1992, when it ran special with the #28.

The only thing that would make this better is if the fine folks in Sonora, Ca., were to get together and build a passenger train station. Looks like they turn the train on a wye somewhere in Sonora. Good to see her running again.

A parting look at #3...uhh...err...but wait, that's only for the year 2012. It's the last run of the year.

What you will learn is that for some reason they aren't running #28. Not much said other then in the commentary that accompanies the video. Maybe it got run off a partially built bridge in a movie sequel? Only jesting.

Sierra Railway #3 - The Last Day

Here's my video, the final video, of this year's steam operation at Railtown. Sierra Railway #3 and her crew put on one of the finest shows possible on the last day of steam on the Sierra for 2012. Thanks Railtown for another great year, and a special thanks to all those who have played their part in keeping my favorite steam locomotive running for all to love and enjoy.

    Here's a docent's reply to a question:

Yes and no. Railtown as of now only operates Steam on Saturdays, due to the lacking of a proper primary steam locomotive. Up until this year, steam was advertised to run every weekend, but now the park only has the #3 available to pull the train, so they run diesel on Sunday.[/h]

I hope the reason for no other steam isn't financial crunch. But I have a feeling.... :(

Here is something which will never be seen again. The economy killed the mill where these logs were headed. And also killed the branch. :(

It's a 70ACe. American flag is a giveaway as none of the 90s have them.

Nose appeared to be in a non-yellow. Possible primer. Wreck repair? Or acquired unit not fully repainted?

Just doesn't look like yellow and gray. On my screen almost looks pink and black. I paused it and did a screen grab:

I thought you were talking about the last loco on the video. That is a patched SP unit maybe a C44.
    Thanks , Mike

That's what I like to see. Thanks guys for sharing those videos. Mike, that was a great capture and I envy you with your helper.

Been busy with lot's to do. House has been in neglect as I've been repairing winter's curse on my layout. So, it's time to get the layout and house winterized and ready for the next go around.

    More videos coming up shortly.

Hand signals looked fairly close to what is standard. The one where he's indicating distance is a bit different. But as long as they get the job done safely...

One more of the V&T. Those hand signals? Are just like what I use when playing brakeman on John Acosta's, Gulf & Pacific Railroad. Only I use the thumb and first index finger to indicate the short distance. Just struck me as funny. He got the job done...for sure.
