Wait, how the factory air still be in the box if this is a true picture of it? Is there a new tech I don't know about?
You need to look closer, the air lock chamber is hidden behind the car in the photo. The price (starting bid) is pretty much about what that car averages though. http://cgi.ebay.com/MTL-Micro-Trains-94050-CRLE-539008_W0QQitemZ5953801661QQcategoryZ19126QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/MTL-94050-Golden-West-Service-3-Bay-Hopper-539008-NIB_W0QQitemZ6041708166QQcategoryZ19126QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
We do all know that there are small holes in the bottom of the MTL boxes, right? That factory air stays where it belongs... in the factory. Meanwhile, the prices appear to be based at least partially on the "current high", which is usually the best price ever recorded. "Past performance is no guarantee of future results." For example, that first Sclair car got no buyers in a recent N Scale Collector "Clearance Sale" (which in itself says something), and the asking price was $22.
I remember a time when MT D&RGW Cookie Box boxcars brought like 20 bucks on ebay, and I found a couple, and tried to get the same.. I was lucky to get 10 apiece out of them, a month later. Ugh. I buy to run. I plan on weathering those priceless MT cars. Yeah, I'm putting on my fire-retardant underwear for a reason...
Here you go George .. this should rile up a N-Scale Collector a little .. Maybe?? Weathered it myself, I did! And I run it too!
Most collectors I know couldn't care less what other folks do with their cars. As long as they already have theirs. Personally, I have "liberated" many a valuable car and put it to work on my trains. The more cars MT can sell to both collectors and runners, the more profit they make, the more cars they can issue (both big road names and off the wall short lines), the more cars out there that I can buy.
Possibly ..... in which case I'm also helping to raise the value of my own Micro-trains collection! But seriously folks, don't take my post too much to heart .. it was done mostly as a spoof. Really!! I don't buy rolling stock (MT included) to just sit idle on a shelf and gather dust on its box. Where's the 'FUN' in that?? [ March 16, 2006, 07:02 AM: Message edited by: GNFA310 ]
