    Good for You!

I run all my circus cars (and I have a full set...). I made a deal with myself along time ago that I would only buys cars for the layout to run.

I just run them. If I cared to collect them, I'd go crazy, as record-keeping is not my thing. There are probably 1969 MT treasures sitting on the railroad. Some have been stripped of running gear and had windows installed as wayside sheds. Why? Because they didn't have rapido couplers back when I was running only rapido couplers, prior to 1978.

Why should I worry about that?

    Back on topic (e-bay jokes)...

    back to the future

I knew the Zephyr could reach 88 MPH, but I never realized that it was equiped with a flux capacitor and could generate the 1.21 jigawatts of power necessary to jump to 1910. How many of you knew that Back to the Future III (the one with the train) was actually based on a true story? [IMG]

I also noted that this guy made his feedback private, so you can't see any of the complaints his customers have made!!!

Not sure his feedback rating is going to increase anytime soon...

Notice that he has 6 negative feedbacks listed for the past month and 48 for the past year! This is exactly why I check out peoples feedback ratings.

I've been on ebay for 7 or 8 years and didn't even know this! Why on earth would anyone buy anything from such a... um... person?

    *sigh*

I'm SO naive and living in the past...

This seller is also selling a 1938 Chessie System Calendar and 1944 B&O calendar showing an F unit. Looking at thier other items it is obvious that they are peddeling lots of junk and know nothing about railroads. Not that they should know everything about trains, but they should know what they are selling.

I'm a little concerned, as a moderator, that we're spending more and more time and bandwidth on eBay auctions. I'm not taking any actions, nor suggesting any actions. I think the tone of some of the posts has gotten a little harsh. There will always be "stupid" auctions, or people willing to pay more than retail or reasonable prices for some items.

I think we do each other a service when we point out rare items at auction, or items we know others on this forum are looking for. I think we do the hobby as a whole a disservice when we start hooting at other's bids.

I'd like to ask for some good common sense before launching a topic on the latest eBay horror story. Here's my reasoning. Some of us, because we've been in this hobby for a long time or because we have s special interest in it, have a very good idea of what things in N scale should sell for. I'm one of those. I'm really not interested in posts about eBay auctions where someone bid too high, or even those where a steal was legally accomplished.

Others of us--and probably the majority--just don't know. We haven't been in the hobby long enough, or we don't have a special interest. I think these hobbyists in the majority find posts about eBay auctions very mystifying. And probably uninteresting to boot.

To sum, I'm not advocating squashing these posts. Let's just have a little self-evaluation of the post's worth!

Not if you want buyers to see you as a reputable seller...Having negative feedback is one thing, hiding from it is another. I would personally never buy anything from a seller with private feedback.
