No photo, but an interesting thought occurred to me recently. I was driving a stretch of road which parallels the Joint Line recently, 'bout 10 at night. A coal drag, I believe, paralleling me southbound. Even though I couldn't really see squat just listening to it in the dark was kind of magical...

Kind of like when I was a boy, hearing our (NP) local coming through town, from the other end of that valley. Listening to the horn echoing between the hills, and a mental picture springing into mind..

Restoring the rail line to service, to Coos Bay, Oregon. Always fun to what track machinery in action:

Following up on my last post, the first train when that line was re-opened:

Wow! There are tons of videos on this operation. Very surprising. I see scenes I can recognize from years ago. My brother lived in Lakeside and Coos Bay for many years.

Always nice to see formerly rusty rails shining again. ;) How long was that railroad closed to traffic (didn't watch the first video, maybe the reply lies inside)?

I don't recall how long. Previous owner ran it into the ground, which ran off the shippers. There was a topic or two about this a few years ago. Might try searching in our Class 2 and 3 Railroad Forum message archives. Should be in there, somewhere.

Wow. A lot of cars not carrying any load. Is that normal?

Usually only in conjunction with the power move.

So that first train, with CSX power and all bare tables, was just a power transfer being used to shuffle empties at the same time?

That is my thinking as it had NO UP units on it.

Thank you Boxcab. Rode this train 9 years ago, and now it looks like the railroad is bankrupt and beeing dismantled, after a last run on latest 31 of August....:rats: RIP, nice little railroad....

    Dom-

A friend of a friend was apparently in Hawaii late last summer. He said someone over there has bought it, with plans to invest capital, and revive that operation. So, let us hope!

Just stumbled across this one, BN in my mom's old home town. Of course when she was a small girl, it was all steam and decades before diesels:

Well, I was feeling a little bit homesick this evening, so was poking around for old familiar places and views. Found this video. Edmonds is a very good train watching spot, plus the scenic views of Puget Sound, ferries, the Olympic Mountains, etc.

Having lived almost fifty years in that vicinity, I was quite well conditioned to cool and damp. When the train shows up, you forget it is damp or drizzling. :)
