So Dave, today I was heading toward Barstow on the I15 and I saw an In-N-Out Burger. I immediately thought of your project and pulled in to get a hamburger. Maybe In-N-Out Burger should sponsor your model. laugh::thumbs_up:
My drawings aren't digital - low tech, pencil and paper. Plus there's alot of 'fine tuning' that I do after the cuts, to get things right. But sure I wouldn't mind sharing the drawings that I've got. I did it in powerpoint, then shrunk it down. Grabbed alot of images off of the web (t shirt, gift certificates, etc...not that you can really tell what they are after shrinking . Ditto w/ the posters - they are snagged from the web, they're actually images from the t shirts. You are one lucky guy !! Sponsorship - free double doubles and t-shirts for life...hmmm...
I love inn-n-out! This is the first time I've ever seen anyone scratchbuild one, and it's looking really, REALLY good so far! Keep us posted:tb-biggrin:
A couple of evenings of work here: I'm going to use .020 sheet styrene for the red and yellow panels.
Dave, Hollow that thing out, it needs lights. 2-3 Nano LED's should cover it. Either that or use Miller Engineering electro luminecent panels for the sign boards.
That looks awsome! How can you build that without it making you crave a double-double, fries and a shake. I want one just reading this thread!
Hey, you're lucky though, you can go out and get one! I'm a displaced Californian living in Ohio now, so this little In-n-Out in my basement will be the closest one to me for 2000 miles or so !
Got the airbrush out today. The red stripe going all around the building was a bugger to tape off.... The sunshades: And the big sign (one side of it anyway) I'm finishing up cleaning up the building right now. There were a couple spots where some red snuck in and I'm touching it up w/ white. I'm starting to smell burgers !
wow amazing how this is turning out! cant wait to see when its all completed but the most fun is seeing it in progress.
Dave, That is awesome. The lettering could not have worked out any better. He brought it by the shop last night and it was still all white. Big change this morning.
When adding the monument sign keep in mind that the arrow should "point to pride" (the store). In the '80's and '90's when I worked for them this was very important. Will you be adding the crossed palm trees to? Another very important feature that Harry (founder) liked very much. The treasure is under the crossed palm trees inspired by a movie that Harry the founder enjoyed.
I knew about the sign pointing to the restaurant, although I just thought it was to make it easier to get to from the freeway . I noticed crossed palms outside the In-n-Out in my photos that I took, and I thought of the movie, but I didn't realize they were an In-n-Out feature also. How cool is that? How fitting that a classic movie that features classic cars and So-Cal craziness is linked to In-n-Out. Awesome. So yeah, I'll definitely get the crossed palm trees in!
I think I recall that in the movie It's a Mad Mad Mad World that there was something about a treasure under some crossed palm trees.
Dave, WOW!!! I love your sign, outstanding project. I'll have a cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate shake to go, please!
Russ: Classic! Just before Jimmy Durante kicks the bucket! Who could forget: "it's under the Big doubleya". Dave: Simply fantastic modeling. Your ability to replicate the tiniest detail is amazing. I'm waiting to see the condiment stations! It wouldn't surprise me if you came up with N scale pickle slices! If you do that, I'm switching hobbies. You've already raised the bar well above my reach!
