Jerry, What are your plans for how you'll paint or simulate the glass surface inside the 'barrel can' Mars light on the SD7 on the right? I've a SP SD7 with the same Sunrise 'barrel can' light, been thinking about how I can do that. Thx, and thx for the good thread here.
This is how I did a couple of recent repaints by adding a red jewel headlight B397 from P&D Marsh Models (P & D Marsh Model Railways) and then filling the "headlight bowl" with Krystal Klear to simulate a glass finish, but it doesn't show up well in the photo. I suspect the red light should be bigger, though................... The clear lights are B398's from the same supplier
Can someone photoshop a wagon wheel on this: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=150572&nseq=16 ; ) GP9 http://espee.railfan.net/picindex/gp09_detail/gp9_007_pass.html I know, no help. Close up of a model: http://www.detailswest.com/images/SPBlack_Widow_GP9_002.jpg
John, I plan on filling the unpainted light with the same Testers Window Maker I used to do the GP60M windows.
Jerry DeBene and Digisnaps01, thx for the comments. Jerry, do you plan to paint the interior of the 'barrel can' first, say a black color, before applying the clear? Nice SP Cadillacs, both . Jerry, looking forward to seeing how the barrel can Mars lights come out, I want to apply some sort of treatment as well: Thx!
Here's todays progress so far. Got the bell housing installed and the wagon wheel brackets installed over it and the wagon wheel on top of that. For the steam generator stack, I drilled out a plastic sprue and glued it in place. I'll let this all set up and paint.
On the C630, I painted and drilled the top lights out. Hopifully the light will shine through these openings.
The grey I used is Floquils SP Lark Light Grey. It is a little lighter then the Atlas Grey, but close enough for me. After weathering it will all blend pretty good.
Still have sunshades, MU hoses, lift rings, wipers, and some extra decaling to do. White on the handrails, and weathering.
If you have spare Atlas light boards you should be able to use the headlight tubes hrom them for your C630:tb-biggrin:
