Ken, Not sure about the SLSE depot out there. Never heard of it. The only depot I know of for them was the shared Union depot on the north side of the Spokane River in downtown Spokane. Shared with the OR&N. I know of no other Eastern Washington depots. What do you know?
The depot I mentioned, was supposedly at, or near the end of where the SLS&E built west. In the back of my mind, I want to say the station name started with a "J". I doubt that site would be mentioned in Report On Washington Territory. But perhaps? Boxcab E50
Just found out from the book, "Spokane's Street Railways'" that the SLSE also had depots at Garden Springs and Jamieson. The depot from Jamieson was moved to Hayford, a different WWP interurban stop on the line. It was located at the corner of Electric Road (now the former ROW) and Center Road. After the interurban quit in 1922, this depot was moved west to Hayford road to become an automobile service station. The depot at Garden Springs was located ON a trestle crossing Garden Springs Creek and was reached by a stairway of 14 steps. There was also a freight loading platform. --------------- As quickly as the NP closed off this section after purchase in 1900, I don't think they ever really claimed these depots as their own.
Ken, Duh moment for me. Yes, it was west. I was thinking of the other portion of the SLSE building east to meet somewhere in the middle of the state.
Jamieson. I'm sure that's it. Back about 1987-1988, a fellow I knew had been exploring that area. And claimed the depot was still in existance. Boxcab E50
Jamieson still has the WWP substation. You can see it easily from I90. The SLSE had a residence there for the depot agent that survived to the WWP.
He gave me a sketched map to the site. But I could never locate a depot. A long time friend, who was a Spokane resident, looked for the depot site on my behalf. But he had no luck either. I've been looking for that sketch. But I might have sent it to my pal in Spokane. And he's now departed. So the map is probably long gone... Oh well. Boxcab E50
It's still in pretty good shape, but in a faded yellow color! It's still on it's original spot, but somebody owns the land, as it has a kinda' chain-link fence around it. I have pic's of it, but no way to scan them.
There was a series of 3 CTC Board issues that were all about Stampede Pass when BNSF was re-opening it. Lot's of great pic's and history! Thats where I found out about the depot still up there! There's a pic of the Kanasket station with F-units heading westbound, so I went and got a pic from the exact same angle.
Oops. I forgot to list the months for that article series are June, July and August. I wonder if Hundman still has any back issues? I don't know what they're doing since the shutdown and so forth. Boxcab E50
This doesnt have anything to do with depots but I didnt realize this until just recently. If you go about 100yds RR east of the 3rd Kanaskat depot and turn due North towards the current BNSF mainline, their is still a water tower sitting almost right along side Kanaskat-Cumberland Rd. back in the trees a bit though. Dont know if it still has water in it but it is still standing.
Anyone have more to add? Is the depot in Dayton, WA, still standing? Anything else in that vicinity? Boxcab E50
Ken, In an earlier post you said that Snohomish depot still exists. Where is it located at? I know the visitors center looks likes a depot but it sits on top of the old MILW line. I would like to know the location of ti so I can get some pictures. I am in Snohomish at least twice a week.
