Is drywall mud the same stuff as "spackling compound" ? I really like Sculptamold, it look's like it's a mixture of plaster and cellulose fibers ( papier maché ? ). It's good because it has some texture, is easy to apply with a spatula or just with the fingers, can be tainted, doesn't shrink and can be sanded. I use it to add some "meat" on a hill or mountain made with paper wads and plaster cloth. It's available at hobby stores and art materials stores. Some craft stores might stock it too. Jacques
Update time. The layout has gone through another season change! This time to winter. I modeled winter on my first layout years ago and thought I would have a go at it again. Winter is also my favorite season and I like the way trains look against the drab brown/grey scenery. So here are the first steps!
Nice pictures Caleb. What kind of winter is that ? I'm puzzled because here that's what winter looks like
Indeed. Though it was looking bit like Canada a few weeks ago in VA! I picked up some new cans a spray paint today, so mass treebuilding can commence.
Lot of work on that layout and in this thread. Thanks for the interesting walk through and those great modeling idea.
Somebody's locos need a trip to the weathering booth! lol Love the bright red nose against the stark background!
Winter looks like that in most of the places I've lived. very nice photos! This is what winter looks like:
Nice shots, Hemi. I've never imagined going up to the Sierras to photograph trains. lol And, my trips to the Rockies have always been during the summer.
Beautiful shots Hemi! Today I a package arrived with my latest purchase, this! An Atlas C&O GP38. It will need some weathering for sure. I'll probably fade it some, it's so dark now that its hard to photograph!
Beautiful loco. Looks great on your layout. Love that little bridge. What are the details about it? Kit? Scratch build?
Thanks Train Kid. About the bridge, its a little of both. I explain about building the bridge a few pages back. Heres where it starts: The central VA door layout progress - Page 22 - TrainBoard.com
Oh cool. I read it all. That bridge is remarkable. Lots of tedious work there. Very nice job. Way beyond my expertise. The little tress are also very well done. Thanks for the info.
Hey, thanks so much for 5 stars on this thread! I have decided to model March instead of the dead of winter. During March some of the trees start to get a sort of green haze of tiny leaves. This should be interesting to model. I applied a small amount of ground foam to the tree in the upper right of this photo, trying to simulate the tiny leaves.
