Nolix Daydream. I am daydreaming that maybe I will take what I call the "Grey Line", (the one starting from the bottom left of Phase 1), and run it at a 4 to 6 percent grade, (in some areas), to as high as I can (but no more than 18"s), in Phase 3 and up to a 2nd level. Arn't dreams wonderful? [ 13. January 2005, 13:07: Message edited by: Grey One ]
A thoguht inspired by the thread on aisle width: If Phase 4 was only 2' wide then I could fit two people in the center and maybe one on the outside. Squares are 1 foot square. The "sketch" was done in Microsoft Excel.
Steve, How would you propose to get into the middle are you having a lift off section or will you crawl under?
Paul, Thanks for asking. Crawl Under. I hope 46 seconds of indignity is worth it. Then again, who knows? It is proably 2 to 4 years in in the future.
Steve: I would eliminate phase 4 and use the reverse "C" design in phases one, two and three. Stay cool and run steam.....
Jeff, I promisc "semi full " documentation. I had antispated assistance from a female freind and her sons for this weekend. That "fel through", _shrugh_. I have hired a carpenter. With luck it may occure next weekend. We shall see.
I didn't want to muck up anyone elses threads so here is my "Hi and Wi" load. Those chips will get used in some way on the Grey and Grandure. /No I have not been drinking.
Hmmm, round trip air fare and food for a week? When is spring break and what are your plans? I should be ready for phase 3 by then. Don't tempt me.
Lol, I'm going to california for spring break so i'll have to pass, but if you lived around here I would do it.
Almost There! This was done on a pre existing table, (4 feet x 2 meterrs). It used to be a table for minatures wargaming. Yard needs work Sorry for the mess Mostly 15" with a few 12” radius on main and Grey Line 9 3/4" radius on the line to Grey and Grandure Number 6 turnouts except the Grey Industrial Area
Steve: That's alot of track for a layout 3x7'. Maybe you should re-evaluate your trackplan. Stay cool and run steam.....
Bob, Yes it is, But since the "L" part of the table will be built at the same time and the layout expanded into it when I get the feel for things. Still, if it proves to be too much I'll down size the yard. Grandure will be at least an inch below the main. The main might climb a little. The Grey Line will climb at 2 percent.
The is aproximately what the "original" Grey and Gradure looked like 25 - 30 years ago. The orange black were hills designed to visual separate the two areas. The yard at the time was a simple clean ladder track.
On Bob's good advice I have altered the G&G once again. Changes: 1) Yard from compound to ladder and 3 tracks removed. This made lots of room for scenery / buildings and such . I also gave up an engine house. 2) Run-a-round in the Grey industrial area was removed. Made more space between G&G track and the main line. does not really affect operations. 3) The Grey Line will be moved from starting on the upper left to starting on the upper right.. This will allow the outer main line to be stretched by about 5 or so inches which will also open the area up for scenery. It will also lengthen the interchange track. I want you to know that removing almost 6 feet of yard trackage hurts _big time_ These changes were inspired by seeing the original DTI plan again. I bought a 2nd hand copy of 101 Tranck Plans. Does anyone know if posting a scanned image of it here violates copyright?
if you have the space, why not use the extra width provided by the large table you have there? If you put the yard on the outside of the oval you can get longer yard tracks for longer trains and more cars.
I guess I should provide a pic of the space. That picuture is taken in the 3rd bedroom. Phasze 1, 2 and 3 will be built in my study. The board is 4 feet across and just wouild not be a good fit. Eventualy (2 to 3 years from now), I will move it to the originaly planned space, (the room where that board is), or I will build a 2nd deck.
