Hi Torsja, it looks like you have lots of locomotive conversions planned! That's going to be quite a nice roster! Keep the photo's coming!
On my workbench i is alot of projects going on, i almoust feel ashamed because i have not shared them with you guys.. But one of the things is this: I am almoust finished with the stripping. It is supposed to run in my suitecase.
looking good, henrik, i can't wait to see it painted. send us more pictures of your progress, ok? dave f.
It's pretty amazing there have been oner 3800 page views of this topic, I remember a time Z scale forum didnt get a posting in months. Just goes to show how the scale is increasing in popularity
David, whats happening to the FT set you are working on. Any pictures. You should have enought dome cars by now.
Henrik, looking good! I'd say your modeling skills keep getting better and better! Asolutley keep your progress posted with more pictures!
hi john, the FT set is done (A-B in Rio Grande 4 stripe). i took pictures yesterday, but have to install software on this computer to make it accessable. i'm on my last week of vacation working on drywall tape and bedding, and texturing walls. our old computer is here in the cabin and i just got a cheap internet access for it (550access - $5.95/mo.!!). it works well! so i hope to have a picture up tomorrow evening. the passenger cars to go with it have proven very difficult. i thought i had the right decals finally(champ), but they are crummy and don't stick. so it is a slow difficult process trying to get the decal solutions to work all with questionable results. but i'm trying. soon i'll be back home and working on a couple of GPs to make another GP40. i think i'll make it CSX. thanks for your interest in the FTs. i hope you all like them. dave f.
David, Sounds good. I always look forward to your projects because I learn so much from it. By the way, how do you search for the right decals. I only know a few decal manufactures like Microscale. Do you have a list of N scale decal manufactures. I want to see if there any decal I can adopt to my running stock, specially boxcar and cover hopper.
I am in the process of installing signals in the Empire Sub. By the way, the signal heads and the equipment box is from BLMA. Craig was very helpful. He sold me the signal heads by itself. They also have a great looking accessories for z scale. I need to order more stuff once my slush fund is in the black again.
Hey John, if I am not mistaken would that be that grain elevator in the backround of that picture? One of these days if you get the time, I'd like to see an overview of your layout. Looks like it keeps getting bigger and more detailed.
Yes, Joe. That is the grain elevator. I am basically painting it like yours because I have never seen a elevator before. I think I will call it the Empire grain coop. One of this days I will take a picture of my layout. Right now there are too many things I need to do to make it presentable. For example, the road you see its a temporary one. Eventually, it will be replace with a nicer one. I hope. Have you heard of bowl of spaghetti. Well, thats my layout. I dont like to remove cars when I run it, so it has two yards.
Cool, When you are done painting it, try giving it a wash of flat black really thinned out. I mean really thin. It will make the wood and the silo detail really stick out. Also, for the windows I finnally just used a thin black paint marker. I just couldn't do them justice with a brush. Can't wait to see yours! I hope this helps.
RE: FT kitbash pictures: well ... trainboard won't upload the photos! it's been 20 minutes for 2 pictures and ... nothing! i'll have to try again in a couple days when i get back home and to my DSL line. the pictures were'nt that great anyway -- a bit blurry. i'll have to re-do them. re: decals -- i go to caboose hobbies in denver and sift through their decal selections. they have about 6 4 drawer file cabinets of decals of all brands/scales: champ, thin-film, microscale, CDS dry transfers, etc. i have to know what i need and then look through all the available scales to find a size close enough to work. sometimes that means $4 for a decal sheet that may only need one logo off of. but that's part of the challenge and fun, isn't. (well, no, not all the time). i admire the guys with the alps printers who can make what they want. so, i'm still stuck without pictures. i can say that i'm satisfied with the result, though i'm not sure it was really worth the effort. i'll let you be the judge. dave f.
Small upadate I've just slowly started to build up some prototypes off my new laser kits that I got done last week.
Torsja, looks great! You have really made some great looking steam loco's that oherwise would not be available. I really like seeing all three of them together. Nice shot.
