Working on Steamer Conversions. NP S10 Class, 10 wheeler from a Marklin 8899 BR38. Modified the shell with resin. laser cut acrylic, and commercial metal N castings, then installed a Lenz Gold Mini under the cab roof. Build a custom tender from Acrylic, designed to look like an NP 8000 gallon tender and to just fit a Lenz Power 1 supercap module. It can run 3 feet with one leg of electrical pickup removed. Pulling a 10 car train too! But the beauty is it can just crawl all day long!
DIARAMA....FIRST ATTEMPT This is my first attempt at doing any scenicing so I thought I'd try a small diarama first. Judging by the mess I have here its a good thing I kept it small. I glued the track down [MT Flex] with Aileens Tacky Glue, this way I could always remove it by wetting it. I found the track easy to work with although putting a small curve in it caused the rail joiners to seperate. The actual size will be about 25"x 15"x 6" high [63mm x 38mm x 15mm] and it will be big enough to display the few pieces of rolling stock I have. I'd like to try a small layout of some kind next but I want a DCC system, already have the Lenz DZV100 system so I would have to get a couple of DCC Locos to make it a go.
robert, your 10 wheeler is really suberb. i'm not a big steam buff, or 10 wheeler fan, but that is SO well done -- and so un-Marklinish, if i can so that. way to go. dave f.
Looks awesome Robert, but ya' better get out the block and tackle cause your front wheels are off the tracks!! Hurry up and re-rail her before the roadforman gets wind of it!!
Weird the front wheel was also something I noticed right away. After off course first ogling the nice conversion off this ugly duckling to become the swan that it is now. I try to always put my models on the rails before taking the pictures. Because then it doesn't take the focus away from the rest off the prime motive. If I succeed every time I don't think so. We Z-Heads have a cunning way off spotting tiny details that's off on a model. What's wrong with us? Nothing! We just have become a custom to such fine modelling at this trainboard from our members that we have to find every fault so that we don't get to sad about our own amateur work. I just love this trainboard and it makes me wane do more en better and better work hopefully. I learn new stuff al the time.
haha! Yes the pilot wheel is off the track! I set the loco on my test track and charged up the power 1, then I quickly put the loco on my module and wanted to take pictures before the headlight went out. I was fiddling back and forth to get the wheels on the track, then I got to take 2 quick pictures, then someone started knocking on the front door, so I had only 2 pictures to choose from for posting.
Robert, Wow! Outstanding job on the ten-wheeler! Did you take some in-progress photos as you did this? Would love to see those so we can all learn from you. John
Robert, that loco is awsome! I am sure you already know, but the 1999 july issue of MR has an article about how to modle the NP 2-6-0's. I'd say you did a bang up job! Looks just like the photo's!
Robert, I told you that some the Marklin boilers had a use !!!! There is so much more detail on them, just need some tweaks so they don't look like the way to commone, well only steam that Marklin has. Kudos. Need to do some more. Can't wait for someone to mod the AC-12 of for both drivers.
This is on my workbench at the moment. It's supposed to represent a 36' wooden boxcar. Hopefully a modern enough type that could be used with the GP-35 ? I did not find any good drawing on the internet from every angel. So I guest on some off the details that I did not se on the picture. The first prototype is entirely made out off styrene sheets and strips from Evergreen. Made the moulds in two peaces, body and roof, so that the body is only half full with resin for weight and balance. They become a little out off line with the truck holes, but they runs well behind my GP so far Will make a couple off more cars and then paint them in my NERR colours. I wonder how they will look in the end?
Hi. Take a look at this webpage for more information on the moulds making. http://www.torsja.com/modelltog/diverse/Byggetips/F-7ResinCast10052005/F-7ResinCast-10052005.htm PS: The object on that project is only for my own personal use and testing. Not for any kind off reselling or profit.
Thanks for the info and the link to your instructions. I would like to try that myself as soon as I can gather the materials.
