Good luck at the signaller's school, Sten

I was in the Sydney metrop from when I started at Enfield South box on 17 December, 1974 until I transferred from Sydney box to Broadmeadow on 20 July 1989.
Spent 6 years at Hurstville, 2 years at Canterbury and on relief worked Sydenham, Rockdale, Punchbowl, Bankstown, Meeks road & Flemo goods jct. All in all, a happy time because I liked my work.

I know. It's hard trying to stay ahead of the hatchet gang:angel:
Age and progress have claimed most...Sad as they were all interesting to work (Goods Jct was more aggrivating:angry: )

Good photos. If you ever get up to Branxton, or Maitland to Singleton, let me know. Maybe when RRR has one of the x-SMR 10 class in steam.

Forget Nos.23 or 30 at Richmond Vale crawling along at 20km/h. I prefer the class leader No.10 in full flight on the main line. Seen here with 3801 at East Maitland.

Incidentally, Bradken has sorted out the bugs on No.18 at Braemar and it was supposed to return to Eveleigh tomorrow. But LVRF hasn't finished with the water gin and brake van to move those ugly Danish things.

    Cheers

Wasn't referring to Richmond Vale, I'm in earshot of the Rothbury bunch, home of 23 and 10 (and soon, the only standard gauge 'R' class).
This photo of 10 was taken about May last year, prior to her return to service.

Get your photos of smoking Alcos on 4168 while you still can. LVRF has lost the contract and 4168 runs for the last time on the 19th.

The good news is that Southern & Silverton has won the contract. They are reactivating some more Cs to haul it!

    Cheers

I really like the look of these. Are they relatively new?

    Alan,

yes they are. an Aussie version of a AC4000CW I guess. :D built by Goninan (local rep for GE) for QR National, they tip the scales at about 180ish t and are rated at 4000hp with AC traction. the loco's were built specifically for the Hunter Valley coal region. to run anywhere else they have to run with half MT tanks and only as a light engine move at a restricted speed.

hahaaha!!! I know that feeling, they produced a model of the CityRail S sets in HO scale, and someone asked if I would buy one I replied, after 300km and 9hrs in one, I wouldn't want to come home and look at a model of one.
one more day of train crewing then 12weeks of Petersham, YAY!! or maybe just yay

    Aussie GEs, etc.

I liked the new Australian engines that I saw around Sydney. They have the low, narrow profile, possibly for the tunnels around the area. If you look at them carefully, you can see most of the GE spotting features just like on US railroads. Sometimes the features are not exactly in the same place, though. Can't say I saw too many 90 series?

I have some bulldog pictures around here somewhere.

Why? Are they too heavy for the trackage, or what?

yes, the heaviest locos on the rest of the NSW system are the NR's which are a 6axle loco weighing 135t. the maximum axle loading for main lines outside of the Hunter Valley is 25t so that would give a maximum weigh for a 6axle loco of 150t, but the NR was built to travel on lines which are not at the 25t loading yet.

Flash, you wouldn't have seen the 90 class in Sydney, as with the 5000 class at 165t, it's too heavy for some of the bridges and when coming to Sydney (for wheel lathe attention) it has to travel light engine with half MT fuel tanks. I guess you'll have to come back down so we can take you up to the Newcastle region for some train spotting :D

Thanks Sten. Got any more pictures of the 5000 class? They are so much better looking than their American versions ;)

Head end power for "The Indian" (I think) switching adding the auto carriers. This is the train that goes to Perth. I had some great times railfanning there.
