http://www.ebay.com/itm/Postwar-Lio...402?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5420137eba Price on the item is seven bucks. BIN is 375. Made from 1947-1969. I have a stack of them...I cut the flat base off and re-mount for a better appearance. Because it's in the box? RARE, SCARCE: Postwar Lionel 1947-1969: FACTORY SEALED: Year: 1961 So...how does a common accessory made by Lionel for 22 years suddenly become rare and scarce at the same time?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-POST...039?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51d364f5a7 BIN 360, scare painted shell....no where can I find a Lionel Lines 6315 with a painted variation. Gulf, yes, but not Lionel. What provenance tells us it's painted and not just simonized? http://www.postwarlionel.com/cgi-bin/postwar?ITEM=6315 Lionel Lines This is the most common 6315 tank car. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-6315...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Zero bids, closed, 30 start, 40 BIN You decide....$360 and no proof
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-6456...575?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ae6c68fff Twenty dollar car. I have oh, four or five in maroon..big deal, right? So, there's some casting flash in one spot...and suddenly it's three hundred clams for something you'd trim off with a sharp xacto blade? 1948 was the design date...but magnetic couplers were introduced in 1949...bar end trucks, 1951. Has magnetic (not coil) couplers, bar end trucks, makes it after 1951, NOT 1948. Tab coupler came in 1955, so 1951-late-1954. Scratched, not pristine, condition (with flash) makes me think fifteen. But, that's just an opinion based upon printed information. Dave
Your guess is as good as any. Nice condition packaging, but how can it be worth that much? Maybe somewhere in the $50 to 75 range? I can remember the first one of these I ever received. A Christmas present way back about 1965-ish. Nice to recall. *Sigh*
If I was serious, I'd need to see such a car in person first. Those pictures just are not helpful enough.
CrXp, if manufacturing QC issues made something more valuable, think of the sudden increase in value of all the Botchman sh...err....stuff out there.
I can understand a lettering error, or putting the wrong type of door on a small batch of cars, etc. But flashing? That seems like a desperate reach for a few extra bucks.
That's the evilbait mantra isn't it? Maximize your profits? With the sub-mantra of fabricate everything you can? I do like the "not tested...we sell furniture and have no way to do so" or some such rot. If so, you do NOT ask TCA collector price for junk, moron!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Post...337?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d34aac7f9 Same stuff, different day. RARE 6464-50 MtSL Boxcar COPPER Painted Shell Collector Variation 295 plus 10 to ship on a BIN. http://www.tandem-associates.com/lionel/lionel_trains_6464-50_box_car.htm http://www.postwarlionel.com/cgi-bin/postwar?ITEM=646450 Three variations...two body types (rivets left out in the side) and gloss Tuscan and flat Tuscan. Know what you get if you have a flat tuscan car and hit the shell with Krylon gloss? I wouldn't have any idea. "The 6464-50 is a common car. It was included in several sets as well as being available for separate sale. Since this is an easy-to-locate boxcar -- along with having rather plain -- yet realistic -- M. & St. L railroad markings -- this box car has generate minimal interest with collectors." Hmm.
"Easily seen through the paint chips. Piece grades excellent" Excellent is C7. That paint chip on the roof alone for me would knock it down to no better than C6.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-LIO...041?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee3438a99 “Nice estate find, heavy metal. " Okay. Ever tried to straighten pot metal cab roofs that were bent? How about curled under? I throw those out, don't waste people's time with auctioning them off. Twelve bucks BIN, free shipping, better jump fast! 16 minutes left! No bids! Dave
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pre-War-Lio...482?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item463d5f25c2 Wonderful piece. It'll buff out easy. Some wheels and axles, and you're set to go. Five bucks (plus their calculated shipping). Four minutes left! Jump quick! Dave
That's why I threw it up here on TB! I was pretty sure somebody with short pockets would jump at five bucks for that pristine example of...something. Dave
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lionel-Trai...583?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5b14deff37 The kid left these in the driveway and I ran over them. Gimme ten bucks plus six shipping and they can be your problem. Opinion. Dave
Too bad that site doesn't have a button we could click- "You should be embarrassed for listing this garbage".
