This does not make it right. And doing what everybody else does only perpetuates the behavior. Wrong is still wrong, no matter what the degree. And yes, it does take time, effort and money to prosecute serious theft. I know, I've been publishing on the internet for over a decade, and I've even had to go after legitimate businesses to remove material that they stole from me (one outfit produced a coffee mug using an image I had created). If I don't protect my property, it is devalued, and then the rate of theft quickly multiplies. Well, that's your loss, then. Why not just get into the habit of following links? Surely it's more important to be respectful of others' property than to create a better "flow." Just my $.02.
It's been my experience that the people that proclaim anything, are usually not what they say they are. Like law abiding. Images are always the sole property of the photographer, even without a sopyright or a watermark. Linking directly to them is stealing bandwith from other websites. It's just politeness to ask permission, or to just post the link. Then that website gets the hits it deserves. Back to PSG, he'll be missed. He and LongTrain made Trainboard a great place to post. They're both missed.
If this wasn't DERAILED before it is NOW! The laughing is over and I think I will stay out of this copyright discussion. Been there - done that. Signing off.....................aaarrrggghhh! Edited add on: But first check out Steam Donkey74's prototypical, authentic, appropriately named locomotive. Next! Ok one or two Chuckles left. See you on another thread.
Hey, Someone mentioned Kool-Aid earlier. Here's a fun one: http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/...7&d=1144788630 NOTE: THIS IS A LINK BECAUSE I DID NOT TAKE THIS PICTURE. We have moved quite a bit away from discussion of PSG. I will miss his responses to my questions and his help in finding coupler conversion kits to fit weird rummage sale finds and his decoder wizardry. Adam
Boy this got off topic... On the topic of photos on the Internet.... There are ways to prevent someone from linking to your photos from an outside source. If a photo is on a public website and not protected from outside links via the server, then the owner should probably expect people might link to it via an outside website. Like it or not, that's the way the Internet is and there has been no one thus far that has legally won a suit to reclaim hosting fees due to excessive bandwidth usage due to someone linking to a photo on their site. Either password protect your website or take action to ensure your server won't allow linking by outside sources. Otherwise you'll be fighting a losing battle. - jamie
In an interesting kind of way this thread is still on topic. If you are familar with the 7 stages of grief you will note how the topics flowed. I feel it has reached the 7th stage: Acceptance. Note: The way I deal with a loss is reflected in my pragmatic posts here.
Well in the forum internet world it just goes to show you a missing member will always show up around the block hanging out with another group of his peers or opening up another forum where they are the boss, and if you look at all other members names on any of the forums you will find the same names and threads. So in all actuality did he really leave?
denial or derail? or both? You say denial I say derail denial derail denial derail let's call the whole thread off. :cool6xb:
somebody once gave me good advice: Stay cool ....... Run Steam. Now everybody.....SADDLE UP! WE'RE BURNIN' DAYLIGHT!
Really interesting thread. I look forward to participating and being more active here on Trainboard. I learned to enjoy blogging here and it was a difficult decision to move it from this board. Trainboard is unique in its makeup and I'm always thankful for the vision and the leadership Charlie has provided over the short time I have been a member. Joe Daddy
My Stupid Mistakes threads here at Trainboard are now up to 95, and Fotheringill's Lessons Learned, which originated here at Trainboard, are now well, together, over 100,000 hits. I think I should include our Trainboard blog hits. Just including mine, we're over 125,000 hits.
If you include my Stupid Mistakes readership in published media, I'm well over 125,000,000 hits. Actually, it's a lot more.
Pete being a administrator I did not think that it gives you the right to flame members. You would think that the staff would put an end to it. Jeff Morrison
