Ok, we're on for the 10th of july. Meetup at 5 pm at the Oxford hotel/Mccormicks corner bar. Happy hour menu is 1.95 per item, anything from burgers to steamed muscles. Directions: Stand on the street side of Denver Union Station. Walk up 17th Street one block. Turn your head to the right. Look for Foamers. If you can't find Union Station, you should re-consider being a rail fan anymore. See you all there.
Sounds like fun. Should be down from the mountains by then. There are some good restaurants around there too, if you don't feel like eating at McCormicks. Also the Cruise Room is right there if you want a cigar and a Martini.
Yeah the cruise room is really cool. I think they sort of ruined it when they renovated it because they removed the real crushed velvet booths and replaced them with cheesy fake crushed velvet ones. I also think that when they replaced the Neon under the bar that the room was made too bright compared to the old dingy cruise room they used to have. IMHO Still, we will have to show people where it is if they haven't seen it. Hope to see you there.
Where do we park for the evenings events?? And is it paid parking, or Free parking?? At this point in time, I'll be there!!! And starting to look foward to it already!
Excellent question. Naturally we'd prefer FREE parking. There are quite a few lots around but they probably charge alot of coin. I wonder if meters are free after a certain time on Saturday night. I'll have to do some checking and report back here.
Gentlemen, I regret to inform you that I overlooked a wedding that weekend, July 10th... Sorry, I got all my hopes up to meet and greet ya'll, and I won't be able to show!
How about the 26th of June, then, or perhaps the Friday night, July 9th? My plane leaves on the 10th, which means I can make the 9th Heck, even Jeremy can!
With the outage this Saturday kind of crept up on us a little quickly. So perhaps the original plan of the 10th makes the most sense...
Don't forget Superday! As for how to get there: Do you know where Lion's Park is? If you are coming north on I-25, take the Pershing ave. exit This is also the FE Warren AFB exit. Head straight at the light. You will enter a freeway entrance ramp again, but stay straight, and in the RH lane. You will then continue on this road till 8th street. Hang a right onto 8th. If you start to pass Cheyenne Frontier Days park, you went too far. Just to the left, about 1/2 mile or so from your last turn, take a left in between a brick sculpture on both sides of Carey. This is a divided road, untill a little ways upit he street. Parking is a buck, at a lot to the left side of Carey, across from Lions Park. If you pass the old steam engine on display there, you went too far. Alternate parking: Park along 8th street, or any of the intesecting side streets for free, and walk in. Either way is a 1/4 mile or so walk. Superday starts at 10AM, (close at 4-5PM) and we will be in an open lawn area outdoors near the old 'community house' As you walk in from the Carey parking lot, you will see a blue house along the beach, and an older house in tan or beige across from it. That is the community house. We should be in that immediate vicinity. We'll have tables and hopefully our sign up. If you park near 8th, walk directly across 8th, and into the park. May be a longer walk, but we will be somewhat near the lake. Bring a camera, and cash for food, they tend to bring in some decent food vendors (last year, it was hot, and an ice cream truck came!), and game midways for the kids. If you want, bring engines or any special train you would like to run. I will be manning the N scale layout with a buddy, and will be running a combo of DCC and analog. The HO layout will be running DCC as well, IIRC. We will have displays of scales from G to Z. If you come later, I may be able to work in a layout tour after the show....... Hope to see you there! Jeremiah
Fellow DGRS members, I will be there on the tenth. I look forward to meeting any of you who can make it.
Guys, Superday was blast! Aside from the rainstorms that put a damper on things (a few times), little children accidently touching and stringlining a train, the N layout was a huge hit! Last year at Superday, we had a spartan 15" circle of track to represent N scale, this year, a partially scenicked 4x8' layout! Thanks to Keith Hahn's gracious help, I have pics too!
