The caboose is scratchbuilt. I built it a couple years ago, but never finished the design. I will someday though, as I want a few more.
Here is the update of progress so far: This is the new dock hoists. I made them long enough to reach from the top of the boardwalk, over the pier, and to fishing boat's holds, so they seem long, to I made the gears beefy enough to do the job. The hoists were rastered and vectored from .015" Lazerboard. The bridges are removable for easy track cleaning, The doubled up super magnets are visible at the footings of the bridge before painting. They hold the bridges tight enough to survive a rough truck ride to a show, yet lift right off for cleaning. Working on the dock still. Poured a third layer of Envirotex Light water material last night. Now the boat sits flat at it's waterline.
Added fishing net, and misc. dockside details. The net is an ols nylon stocking from my wife's drawer, and the details were rastered using a new product, Vectoboard, a black (Enviromentally Green!) .011" thick material similar to Lazerboard provided by Chris Tatarian. Also added people fishing at the end of the pier. And the first structure on the boardwalk is the Tai Foon Fish Company. The sardine boat was built by Mike Duggan, Thanks Mike! Here is the underside of the module, allwired and ready for DCC by Jeff Merrill. Thanks Jeff!
Here is the topside. Jeff Merrill put down the concrete pads on the top of the right side. That's where Centerbeam Cars will be loading. I just finished designing the next structure to put on the boardwalk, so I will be cutting parts for it today.
Robert that looks very real! The water really looks good. I like that muddy but clear look you got out of it. Very nice!
Robert, Looks great. I like the magnet idea for the lift off bridges. One or two of those hoists might look good fastened to a flat car or gon for MOW work. Dan S.
Robert, The module is looking great! I love the dock scene and the dock hoists. Great idea for holding the bridges with magnets! Rob
Finished the second boardwalk structure, Tirn Brothers Fish Packing Company. Also made up some different details for the dock and the scene: Starting on the third structure tonight.
Robert - you are setting the bar awfully high for the rest of us to try to display something in Oregon in a few weeks. This is pretty nice !! ...don
Now I see what you did with that metal you weathered. Right on that roof! Nicely done...ya know that building could be a kit that could represent just about any business.
Are those seagull droppings on the boardwalk in front of the fish company? Now that's DETAILING! Now clean it up before the health inspectors come around. :tb-biggrin: Bill Mock
Thanks for the kind words. The fire hydrant is from a Woodland Scenics N Scale people set, and I rastered the other details from Vectoboard, Chris's new product which engraves like paper yet is stiff like plastic. I designed the third building and am ready to cut it tonight before i head out to the club!
